CV Axle & Axle Shaft Repair in Regina, SK
Clicking When Turning? Vibration While Accelerating?
Your vehicle's axles and related drivetrain components help transfer engine power to the wheels. When something goes wrong, you might notice clicking noises, vibration, unusual movement or other changes in how your vehicle drives.
At Kinetic Auto Service in Regina, we diagnose axle and drivetrain concerns before recommending repairs. Our goal is to identify the component responsible for the problem, not simply replace parts based on a symptom.
What Does a CV Axle Do?
Many front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles use CV (constant velocity) axles to transfer power from the transmission or differential to the wheels. CV joints allow the axle to transmit power while accommodating suspension movement and, on steering axles, changes in steering angle.
Each CV joint is protected by a flexible rubber boot that helps retain grease and keep dirt and moisture out. Over time, CV joints can wear and boots can split, causing loss of grease, vibration and noise.
Signs of a Worn or Damaged CV Axle include:
- Clicking or popping when turning: Particularly during tighter turns while accelerating, which can indicate wear in an outer CV joint.
- Vibration during acceleration: Certain worn inner CV joints or axle components can cause vibration under load.
- Grease around the wheel or suspension: A torn CV boot may allow grease to escape and contaminants to enter the joint.
- Clunking when accelerating or changing direction: Excessive wear or movement in drivetrain components may cause noticeable noises.
- Visible axle or CV boot damage: Cracked boots, leaking grease or damaged components may be discovered during an inspection.
These symptoms aren't exclusive to CV axles. Wheel bearings, tires, suspension components and other drivetrain parts can produce similar complaints. A proper assessment helps determine what's actually causing the problem.
CV Axle and Axle Shaft Replacement
Depending on the vehicle and the condition of the components, axle repairs may involve:
- CV axle assembly replacement
- Inspection of CV joints and protective boots
- Diagnosis of axle-related vibration and noises
- Inspection of axle seals and related fluid leaks
- Inspection and replacement of damaged axle shafts
Not every axle concern requires the same repair. We'll explain what we've found, what repair is appropriate and why we're recommending it.
What About Trucks and Four-Wheel-Drive Vehicles?
Not all vehicles use the same axle design. Rear-wheel-drive trucks and some four-wheel-drive vehicles may use solid axle assemblies, axle shafts and differentials rather than the independent CV axle arrangements common in many passenger vehicles.
Problems involving these components can produce noises, vibration, leaks or other drivetrain symptoms. Kinetic also diagnoses and repairs related drivetrain systems, including differentials, driveshafts and four-wheel-drive components.

Why Diagnosing the Problem First Matters
A clicking noise when turning might point toward a CV joint, but a vibration or clunk can have several possible causes. Replacing an axle without confirming the source of the problem can leave you with the same symptom and an unnecessary repair bill.
At Kinetic, we take a diagnostic-first approach. We consider when the symptom occurs, inspect the relevant components and recommend repairs based on what we find.
