Road trips should be about great memories,

not unexpected breakdowns!

Before you hit the highway, here are some simple ways to help keep your drive safe and stress-free.

Check Your Tire Pressures:

Heat, heavy luggage and long highway drives can all put additional stress on your tires. Check the pressure when the tires are cold and inflate them to the specification listed on the driver’s door jamb, not the maximum pressure printed on the tire.
Proper tire pressure supports better handling, fuel efficiency and tire life.
Don’t forget to check the spare tire, too!

Have Battery Health Tested:

Summer heat can be hard on a vehicle’s battery, even when it seems to be starting normally.
A weak battery may not give much warning before it leaves you stranded. If the battery is several years old, the engine is cranking slowly or you have noticed electrical issues, a quick battery and charging-system test can help identify a problem before your trip.

Check Your Coolant Level and Watch For Leaks:

Your cooling system works especially hard during hot weather and long highway drives. Before your trip, make sure the coolant level is correct and if there are ANY signs of a leak, get it inspected. Watch for puddles under the vehicle, a sweet smell, low coolant levels or a rising temperature gauge.

NOTE: Never remove the radiator cap while the engine is hot 🔥

Don’t Spend Long Summer Days Without A Working Air Conditioning System:

An A/C system that isn’t blowing cold air or one that is making odd noises should be inspected. A simple recharge of the refrigerant might be all that’s needed, or you may have a more serious issue. Like a failing compressor or electrical problems, we can diagnose issues if/when they arise.

BONUS TIPS:

Smart A/C Use!

When you first get into your hot vehicle, don't let the engine idle. Instead, turn on the A/C and drive with the windows open for 15-30 seconds to release the trapped, hot air before rolling them up. This helps your system cool the cabin faster and reduces strain on the engine!

Use The Recirculation Button To Get MAXIMUM Air Conditioning!

This button recirculates the already cooled air in the vehicle, which reduces the amount of work the vehicle has to do to keep you cool!

Use Cruise Control On Highway Trips!

Not only does cruise control give your leg a rest, it also helps maintain a constant steady speed, which is more fuel-efficient than constantly accelerating and decelerating. So, tap your free foot to the beat of the road trip tunes while you save money on fuel!
